This Week's Playlist

This Week’s Playlist

The beginning of this playlist is painfully indie. I’m sorry. To balance the scales a bit, I added some A$AP Rocky, but to be honest, that’s probably one of his more mellow beats. It's sort of all over the place genre-wise, but I think it accurately encapsulates my current state of mind.

Time Moves Slow

BADBADNOTGOOD

Okay, so, this song has been in my heavy rotation for a solid few months, but it would be a legitimate crime not to share it with you. The way the beat changes on that “running away is easy, it’s the leaving that’s hard” hits home in the most peculiar way. Close your eyes and take it all in. Ew, that was lame.

Sundress

A$AP Rocky

Rocky delivers without fail. As always, the video for the song is equally enthralling. I could not help but draw comparisons to the Mannequin Challenge video.

So Good At Being In Trouble

Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Almost every Unknown Mortal Orchestra song makes me feel like I have melted and been transported to a parallel dimension. This one takes me somewhere. I feel like I’m sitting under some neon light, smoking a cigarette, but not hating it . The molecules that make up my body are scattered and suddenly, I’m a cartoon, pink probably, and I have Joan Jett hair. I don’t know, it’s just the mood.

Brew

Declan McKenna

This shit slaps. Declan goes hard constantly. Not to be this basic, but I saw the lifestream of his set at Coachella, and it was fire. Okay, I get it, I’ll chill with the lame lingo, but listen, Declan is a genius. He gives you this strange Bowie vibe in appearance and his music has this inexplicably electric and electronic attitude.

At this point, the playlist gets obviously influenced by my binging of the docu-series “The Nineties”. Enjoy as a girl that was born in 2001 suggests 90s music for you to listen to. Does she understand the massive irony? Yes, but maybe not as much as she should, or else she would not have even placed this in her playlist. Why is she talking in this tense? Ehhh… I don’t know.

Can I Kick It?

A Tribe Called Quest

You wouldn’t think just by listening to “Walk On The Wild Side” by Lou Reed that the beat could be sampled and rapped over. I adore this song for that. I know, I know, you know how cool it is already.

I Get Around

2Pac

Weird message, dope song. That was about as short as an Amazon review. I wish a female rap group would cover it honestly.

Now we move on to two songs I cannot get out of my head. These are the last songs on the playlist, and by far my favorites.

Malamente

Rosalia

Okay, so… ROSALIA. How do I talk about her without yelling? She is spectacular. This Spanish songstress is beyond perfection. Her sound is spectacular and her videos are addicting.

Fat Bottomed Girls

Queen

AAARE YOU GONNA TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT? That first lyric is honestly the most sexy opening ever. I get it, you probably think I didn’t know about Queen until after I saw Bohemian Rhapsody. You’re wrong, but I didn’t like them as much as I do now if that makes you feel justified. This song is just brilliant.
