16 Films That Changed the Course of My History

Art has definitely and unequivocally dictated my life. It has seeped its way in to every part of who I ams. Throughout my short time on this Earth, the greatest drivers of my personality have always been the films I was obsessed with at that age. I thought I would share these films with you because maybe you can relate to me some how, or perhaps you honestly need a life-changing film right now. Whatever your reason for reading this may be, I hope you enjoy these films just as much as I have. Look, not every film on this will move you to tears, but each film has played its own role in orchestrating a part of who I am. Here they are in no particular order:

Mulan

I LOVE YOU MULAN!!! She was the first autonomous and resilient female character I had ever witnessed, plus she SAVED ALL OF CHINA so, yeah, I love her.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

Honestly, out of every suggestion I have ever made, never have I ever recommended a film more than this one. Edgar Wright is too powerful, please pay attention to the transitions and music, it's just magical.

Marie Antoinette

Sofia Coppola manages to mix history with modern music and it just works. The story of Madame Deficit through her eyes has never been told in such an exhilarating way.

The Aquatic Life with Steve Zissou

This film is just beautiful. It is often bashed for its plot and dialogue, but visually, Wes Anderson prevails. This film never ceases to amaze me, I love it with all my heart.

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial

The excitement my mother had when she finally showed us this film is one of the reasons why I adore it so much. It is such a monumental film in my life for that reason, and some of my greatest memories have happen during and after riding the ride for it in Universal Orlando.

Amy

I love this film beyond words. This documentary is so raw and its beauty is undoubtedly unparalleled. The oscar this film received is beyond well deserved.

Lady Bird & Call Me By Your Name

Being able to experience these films at my age was a gift beyond explanation. I know that these films will forever influence my work and my world. The emotion they evoked within me are more than I could ever begin to express.

Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince

Every Harry Potter Film is special to me, but The Half Blood Prince hit me in a most particular way. I know it is a bit cliche, but this film is near and dear to me for so many reasons.

The Karate Kid

I tried Hawaiian pizza for the first time while watching this film. I also learned some valuable lessons, especially about how seemingly arbitrary moments and events may have a greater unearthed meaning in our future.

The Sound of Music

This was the only film my music teacher played for us in her classroom. That and Flubber, but this one was obviously the most influential.

Coraline

Coraline is beautiful both as an art piece and as a story. Henry Selick brought the work of Neil Gaiman to life in this terrifying claymation. This is the film that made me appreciate film and all the grueling efforts that go in to making films.

Camp Rock

I got bangs because of this film. It wasn't cute, but it happened.

Romeo + Juliet

THIS MOVIE!!! I think this one of the most clever portrayals of literature to film that i have ever seen. I adore the concept.

The Blues Brothers

My father made me watch this and I genuinely enjoyed the film. It was not something I was keen on watching, but the car case scene was unlike anything I had ever seen before. It is absolutely compelling and a must-see.

Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen

Lindsay taught me exactly what NOT to be as a teenager, and I think that this film has oddly added to many of the characteristics of who I am today because it so clearly demonstrated the opposite of what I wanted to become.
