Made for people in and out of relationships or people who have never even experienced one at all, This Modern Love is comprised of 15,000 submissions from around the globe. Will Darbyshire asked the contributors questions of how they felt in different phases of a relationship. Compiled over the course of months from people of a variety of ages, the responses came in forms of words, poems and photos. The book is broken down into three parts: the beginning: which is the starting changes of falling for someone, the middle: being in the relationship and being in love, and finally the end: the heartbreak.
This novel took me on an adventure of emotions. The spectrum was vast, ranging from loving and caring to sad and dark, and even some funny and awkward moments. It shined a light on what modern relationships are like. This book allowed people to let out secrets and fears that they had not been able to share before. The raw emotions in this book show the good, the bad, and the ugly of modern love. Each piece is vulnerable in its own form, and shows the audience a genuine depiction of what it is like to be in or out of love in our society.
This Modern Love has something we can all relate to. It holds things that we have all thought about someone at some point in our lives. It also manages to put thoughts into words and phrase things we have not been able to before. Written by real people, it is not the fictional love stories we are used to seeing all around us. This authenticity of real-life stories really emphasizes the beauty of this book. It reassures you that you are not alone. The heartbreak they feel is not unknown. Someone has felt what you are feeling before. The honesty of the book overall shows you how there are good times and bad times, and that is what it really means to be in love.
