The Beatles & I
"Limitless undying love, which
Shines around me like a million suns,
It calls me on and on across the universe"
“The greatest band of all time,” The Beatles literally invented music and became the kings of rock in the early 60s. Legends John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr rose from Liverpool to become the world’s most adored and “stanned”* band of all time. The Beatles’ songs bring out the best from different styles ranging from Indian music to rock, creating an exceptional and unique sound, which changed and impacted the sound of music forever. This Revolution shaped future music styles so greatly that these four lads caused an unprecedented uprising, ruling the world for years with their wholehearted lyrics and British banter. They didn’t only influence music, but fashion, hairstyles and a new appreciation for music. Girls would drop at the sight of them and shake at the release of their new albums- a fondness and worship that would only later be attempted by the legendary band One Direction. This fanatic feeling only grew over the years as the band became bigger and released new music. The Beatles were not only praised by girls, but by everyone!!!! It didn’t matter if you were white or black, girl or boy (which is really saying something in the 60s) the band could appeal and relate to everybody. This is so important because it shows how this band united people!!
This brings me back to today. Right now it is 2017. More than 50 years after the height of the Beatles and here I am, listening to All My Loving on Spotify while lying on my bed typing on my computer. Get a time turner and go back 50 years, and any girl my age was listening to this exact same record, absorbing every lyric and feeling as soft as I am right now. It’s crazy to think how much these lyrics have Come Together (I hate myself) to form another world. How these lyrics have impacted people through the decades, starting prominent movements and just making people’s hearts ebullient across the continents. The lyrics take you anywhere you want, and they can be interpreted in any way you decide, which I think is why the band was so successful. These songs don’t just change your life, they make you want to drop everything and go dance under a disco ball. They make you want to run or play the guitar or just lie on the floor listening to the spinning record on a turntable. Strawberry Fields Forever makes you want to go strawberry picking with your best friends, while Something makes you think about Niall Horan. Just kidding, that’s probably only me.
Just by watching live performances, it’s easy to see why girls would throw themselves at them, why the world was so fond and engulfed with them. Their stage presence and the genuine lovely smiles on their faces showed how much love they had for the music they were producing and performing. They had so much passion in what they were doing that truthfully captivated the world.
I pretty much grew up listening to the Beatles, I remember my mom playing her Abbey Road CD in the car and me singing along to Here Comes the Sun, listening in awe to the catchy beats, and eccentric lyrics in songs like Octopus’ Garden. But growing up, I have discovered a new love for this heroic group. Listening to The Beatles inspires me and fills me up with joy, knowing that so many people before me have loved and screamed out these lyrics at concerts. It just makes me so glad to know that this music has brought so many people together. It is not hard to say that the band was and remains to be the greatest of all time.
